Born in Seattle, Washington, Chance Uptmore grew up as an only child in West, Texas, where he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at the lake house. In his youth, Uptmore loved everything about the water; sailing, water skiing, tubing, boating, and just relaxing.
Living in small town Texas, football is king, and Uptmore decided to put his dream of playing in the sand in surf on hold.
In his 20′s, Uptmore played Arena Football, but after suffering two season ending injuries, in two seasons, it was time for a change. After moving around a few years, he decided to check out what Austin, Texas had to offer. Chance found that he enjoyed bodybuilding. Not his true calling, but it was where he found the opportunity to learn about supplements and exercise. Intrigued, he set forth to make his physique the best he could.
It wasn’t until his early 30′s, that Chance found his true passion. His love of the water never went away, and with a brief introduction to StandUpPaddling, Uptmore was hooked. Being that most boards are made for riders in the 5’10”, 180 lb. range; Uptmore had to figure out how to make the boards work for his 6’5” 305 lb. body. This is when he introduced Formutech Nutrition into his diet and workout regimen. As well as riding any moment he could spare. Before long, he got down to 265 lbs. Chance entered his first race without hesitation, riding an 11 foot x 28” SUP surf board. Barely keeping himself above water, Uptmore blew minds that day. Many said “imagine what this man could do on an actual race board, adequate for his size”.
The following year, Chance entered several more races, armed with a custom 14′ Formutech Nutrition SUP race board. Uptmore received several 2nd places and a 1st place awards; despite outweighing most paddlers by 50-70 lbs. Chance is still getting his feet wet in this super-fast growing sport. Uptmore envisions moving his family to either coast, entering more and more races, getting involved in the SUP community, and showing his strength with the help of Formutech Nutrition.
